Little Miracles and Little Sleep

And we're off...

Miriam survived her first flight! She had so much fun people-watching and playing and the flight attendants loved her, of course :)

She also enjoyed sleeping in the airport:

We've been experiencing lots of little miracles along our way so far. We had terrible seat assignments for our flight to Toronto and at the last minute the gate agent moved us to a row where we had an empty seat between us (that made things SO much easier!). More seriously, there were some issues with our tickets because of flying with an infant, so we had to check in a second time and go through security again in Toronto with a tight-ish connection. We turned the corner to the area where we needed to be and there were more than 400 people ahead of us in line. Needless to say, we were a little worried. All of a sudden we were whisked away to the priority check-in line (with no one ahead of us!) AND Lufthansa gave us priority seating for our flight with a bassinet for Miriam. We also skipped another equally long line at security...amazing! We're so thankful that God provided for us in these ways.

(In case you can't tell, the photo above is of Miriam sleeping, bum in the air, in the bassinet)

Unfortunately she only slept for about an hour on our long-haul flight and, despite having slept hardly at all for the rest of the day, refused to go back to sleep no matter what we tried. That's right - we were *that* family...the one with the loudly crying baby on a plane. It actually got so bad at one point that other families with babies started glaring at us for making so much noise and threatening their babies' precious sleep. A little embarrassing, but life goes on. Fortunately, the flight attendants still loved her (probably because they weren't trying to sleep!).

On a lighter note, Jerry got a fortune cookie with his sushi at lunch and this is what was written inside:

He was pretty happy with that, even though we don't take fortune cookies very seriously :)

We made it over the ocean without a wink of sleep, but we're feeling pretty good. Miriam is sleeping on an airport bench again...

...but at least it's a European bench this time!
